This is for Luck and Protection

Ruth Proctor’s project for Notes from Nowhere consisted of a specially produced, limited edition metal badge. The badges presented the legend ‘This is for Luck and Protection’. The badges functioned like talismans, physical objects that aimed to bring luck and protection to those that received it.

The artist produced 50 copies of the badge for Notes from Nowhere with a specific idea for their distribution. She provided the public with the opportunity to nominate a person to receive one of the badges. That person might be a loved one, a friend, someone who works for the good of the community, someone known or someone admired from afar.

On Sunday 3rd June, 2012, Foreground hosted a party at Sun Street Chapel, Frome, where the 50 chosen nominators gave their 50 nominees their badges in a public celebration.
