St Ursula’s E-ACT Academy

Commissioned by Foreground as part of Bristol City Council’s Primary/Bristol series of artist commissions for Primary schools, Peter Liversidge will make a new work for St Ursula’s E-ACT Academy that will evolve over 3 years.
The work will provide strong links to St Ursula’s curriculum and allow staff to explore ideas of history, geography, numeracy and literacy with the pupils to embed the art commission in the everyday learning structures of the school.
Liversidge will make a Postal Object collection especially for St Ursula’s E-Act Academy. For 3 years Liversidge will source diverse found objects from around the world and post these objects to the school. These objects will represent different subjects, some will be mundane and some will be mysterious. Each however will be sent to the school in the same way. Posted without being wrapped or package, Liversidge will attach stamps from the country he posts the object from directly to the object itself, label it and post it to the school.
Liversidge will not only send the pupils at the school objects from around the world. Prior to the school vacating the old school buildings the artist secured a collection of historic objects from the school’s past – trophies, scientific equipment, books and curiosities – and a selection of these objects will be sent to the school also so that the pupils receive objects from across time as well as the world.
Once at the school the objects will be housed in a dedicated display cabinet, creating a changing museum-like display of Liversidge’s intriguing collection of objects.
This project has been commissioned and funded by Bristol City Council as part of the Primary Capital Education Programme. The work will be permanently housed at St Ursula’s E-ACT Academy, Bristol.
