Proposals for Frome
Peter Liversidge
Peter Liversidge’s contribution to Instructions for an Ordinary Utopia began with the creation of 58 Proposals for Frome that were gathered into a publication of the same name. Liversidge’s amusing and eccentric book features ideas for social events, architectural alterations, artworks and performances created especially for the town.
Ranging from the simple to the fantastical, the humourous to the philosophical, the proposals suggested ways in which the ordinary could be made extraordinary. The book was published for the launch of the project and specific proposals were realised during the seven-week duration of Instructions for an Ordinary Utopia, ranging from the creation of an obstacle course in the middle of the town centre to the scattering of 10,000 brand new one pence pieces throughout the streets of Frome by Liversidge and members of the public.
