The Finger

Micah Purnell’s work for Notes from Nowhere consisted of a beer mat featuring a stylized hand. Entitled The Finger, five white graphic blocks against a blood red background portrayed the universally aggressive raised single finger hand gesture.

Within this graphic rendition of aggression however, Purnell wrote the biblical quote ‘Bless those who curse you’ creating a contemplative counterpoint to the card’s image. The beer mats were distributed across Frome’s many different pubs throughout the duration of Notes from Nowhere creating a distinctive counterpoint to the normal alcohol promotion normally found on this form of advertising.
