Rehana Zaman
Rehana Zaman is an artist from Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire. Raised by her Pakistani mother and eight older siblings, her work explores notions of kinship and social relations, seeking possibilities for intimacy and transgression, within hostile contexts.
Conversation and cooperative methods sit at the heart of her films which extend into texts and performances. A driving question within Zaman’s work is how social political concerns, in addition to providing content, can structure how an artwork is produced. To this extent she has sought to apply methods influenced by radical pedagogy, as in the writings of Paulo Freire, and psychosocial dynamics rooted in Black feminist thought, to working with public participants in the generation of artwork.
