Foreground’s major place-making project for Frome, The Frome Independent, returns for 2016 from 3rd April
The Frome Independent is more than a market – it is an award winning, once a month temporary community that reclaims Frome’s high street to showcase the best independent designers, makers, producers and traders in the South West against a backdrop of culture, community and conversation.
Established in 2013 The Frome Independent is a significant demonstration of our belief that culture creates communities and has grown to become one of Frome’s key tourist draws, generating millions of pounds in revenue for its traders and Frome’s independent retailers and demonstrating how culture can shape identity and significantly contribute to the cultural, economic and social wellbeing of a place.
On the first Sunday of each month between April and December, The Frome Independent closes the whole of Frome town centre to traffic, transforming the town into a pedestrian playground that embeds social meaning back into shopping.
The Frome Independent mixes established models of the specialist street market – artisan food, garden & flowers, antiques and collectibles – with an additional focus on designers and makers and elements more familiar from festivals: live music & DJs, street food, art and events. Come and reclaim the high street with us!
Dates for The Frome Independent in 2016 are April 3rd, May 1st, June 5th, July 3rd, August 7th, September, 4th October 2nd, November 6th and December 4th.
