Foreground Director Simon Morrissey to speak at Chester Visual Arts symposium
Foreground Director Simon Morrissey will be the keynote speaker at Chester Visual Arts first symposium event on 22nd September 2016. Chester Visual Arts has been instigated by an independent group of business and arts leaders to address the lack of provision for the production and presentation of contemporary visual art in the City of Chester.
Recent research and planning in relation to the development of the city has identified the importance of its cultural offer and the lack of both credible provision for visual arts of national and international repute for audiences and the infrastructure for professional artists to base themselves in the city.
Chester Visual Arts’ agenda is to find the most effective means to solve these gaps in cultural provision by lobbying for the development of a regular programme of high quality events and exhibitions and realising the ambition of a permanent contemporary visual arts gallery of regional and national significance in Chester.
As the keynote speaker, Simon will be discussing how Foreground has developed its role in bringing critically acclaimed contemporary artists to work in Foreground’s hometown of Frome, Somerset.
Organisations represented at the discussion will include: Arts Council England, the University of Chester, Cheshire West & Chester Council, NW Business Leadership Team, developers Grosvenor and leading regional arts organisations such as Tate Liverpool and Storyhouse Theatre.
